Sally Govorko is a New Zealand based designer who has spent 30 years creating beautiful silk clothing. She has combined natural silk with the traditional Japaense Dye method called Shibori. and produces original one of a kind designs.
The Japanese word Shibori dates back to the 8th century and is a term used for several cloth resist dying techniques.
Silk or cotton fabric is either folded, clamped, tied, twisted, stitched or capped to achieve a variety of different patterns. One of the characteristics of this method is to achieve soft or blurred edges of patterns and always present is the element of surprise, and the unexpected as only a certain amount of control is possible.
"The final challenge for me is the integration of the dye work with fashion, good design and a contemporary aesthetic. "
